The Cello Project seeks highly-skilled cellists for its core cello section, experience in multiple genres and styles preferred.

Portland Cello Project is a collective of multi-genre musicians, consisting of a core group of 4-8 classically-trained cellists, sometimes joined by vocals, bass, keyboard, drums, trumpet (“the band”), and special guest artists.

The Cello Project performs both locally and nationwide in a variety of configurations of musicians, records albums and shoots videos, and does educational outreach. This audition is for the 2024-25 Season, which consists of dates in August and December that require travel (including Anchorage Alaska roughly Dec 3-8), and spring dates TBD, as well as some private gigs in 2024 spring, and a performance at the Oregon Bach Festival June 29, 2024, as well as other gigs that will come up during the year.

You are ideally available for all of the gigs, but that is not essential. Basically, winning this audition would make you the first call on all of the gigs from spring 2024 through the end of the 2024-25 season (June), but it is still at-will work, and we are understanding and flexible about specific schedule needs and changes.

Compensation is: $250 per concert service (including soundcheck), and $125 per 2-hour rehearsal, with travel and lodging arrangements paid by PCP in select circumstances for non-Oregon performances. Larger concerts frequently have a 3pm call time for soundcheck, dinner provided during a dinner break, a start between 7pm and 8pm, 90-minute performance time often with an intermission. Some concerts don’t have a soundcheck, but the concert service rate remains the same (in the performer’s favor).
